"OVER & UNDER" REALTY OFFICE AND PENTHOUSE | Fall 2018
OBJECTIVE
The goal of this project was to design two floors, a Penthouse and a Realty office, in a mixed use property located in Richmond, VA, with views of the James River. Important to the project was the specification of sustainable finishes and furnishings, as well as Universal Design. Decisions about square footages and space allocation within the building footprint were left to the designer.
CONCEPT
“Over&Under" describes the bridges, railroads, tunnels and highways which weave together Richmond’s rich history. This concept is interpreted as “Refined Industrial” in the Realty office and as “Nuanced Deco” in the penthouse. The trapezoid and layered elements are repeated in both spaces.
SOLUTION
The Penthouse incorporates a green roof and maximizes city or river views from every room. The Realty office features open work space for agents (including quiet areas) and also offers clients views of the river and, through the design, a better understanding of that which makes Richmond a great place to lease or own property.
